Capacity Building for the Future of Work
Half of us will need to reskill in the next five years, as the "double disruption" of economic impacts and increasing automation takes hold, per a report by the World Economic Forum.
This will also necessitate organizations into adopting an approach that “seeks to be open, fluid, and adaptable with a model that focuses on a powerful aspiration: creating sustainable and inclusive growth”, according to a McKinsey Study.
The future of work will therefore be dominated by:
Advanced technologies - AI, automation, IOT, 5G etc
New work styles – remote, hybrid, GIG, freelancer etc
Evolving employee expectations – well-being, inclusive, flexible, continuous L&D etc
The triangulation of these vectors will necessitate capacity building at scale.
Capacity Building is a long-term process that involves strengthening skills, activating resources, and building new capabilities. It is a term often bandied about but seldom understood properly. To be effective, capacity building needs a three-pronged approach that focuses on – individual growth, intra-organization resilience, and inter-organization relationships.
As an example, in the ‘HP Cambridge EdTech Fellowship’ program for policymakers we zone-in on all 3 aspects. Participants are provided leadership coaching, deep dive into the latest EdTech and AI developments, are tasked with leading a national transformational project in their country with scalable impact, and are given access to a global network of like-minded Fellows on whom they can lean on for expertise and support.
Similarly, the ‘HP Gaming Garage program’ for students, when executed in collaboration with Ministries to support their digital skilling agenda, gives learners free in-depth Creative Economy curriculum with professional certification, integrates application of the newly learned skills through hackathons, and provides access to HP’s intergovernmental partners on the program such as UNDP and YMCA.
Grateful and proud to be supporting national digital transformation mandates through our capacity building programs and shaping the Future of Work.
Best,
Mayank Dhingra
